Time to regroup. Summer was fun with lots of random things to do, but now I’m ready to buckle down and work. September just feels like that. School buses are collecting kids, and there’s a change in the air.
For my bullet journal, I created patterns out of octagons. Organizing the octagons into various configurations created the sense of order I’m looking for right now. The saturated colors infused a note of joy.
Cover Page
For the cover page, I drew September’s letters at jaunty angles and layered the octagons. The facing reflection page is more sedate with my most autumnal color creating a quiet balance to the cover page.
Projects
The projects page includes my usual trackers. Titles are offset by tiled octagons.
This month I’m hoping to make serious progress on my novel revisions. Though they don’t show up here (I photographed my spreads before filling them out), my writing plans are all about finding solutions to issues I’d like to fix in my novel, then writing those changes into the manuscript. I got amazing feedback and insight from my beta readers, and I’m excited to dive into the work.
Calendar
The calendar sits over a strip of patterned octagons on the right. On the left I included a quote to inspire my novel revisions this month:
The more you leave out, the more you highlight what you leave in.
Henry Green
I liked the calendar better before I added the colorful circles to number the days. I wish I had used black circles with white numbers instead, but didn’t think of doing that till it was done. As I write this, I’m realizing I could still change it. It would be easy to black out the circles. I might do that later if I’m highly motivated, but for now this is working fine. Nothing is ever perfect :o)
Weekly
I’m sticking with my usual weekly spread, where I can see an overview of the days, as well as having space to allocate which of my monthly tasks I’d like to accomplish this week. I like the colorful strip of cut off octagons—it adds a festive note to the week.
How’s your month shaping up? Do you get in the back-to-school spirit?
This feels Mardi Gras-festive-like to me — the colors and movement — and why not Mardi Gras in September?! No reason, especially if we’re to embrace work being a celebration of life. This is one of my favorites! Thanks for sharing!
