Shenandoah Color

Ah, to be in Shenandoah in the autumn. Shenandoah National Park sprawls over the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, and the displays of color that the trees put on in autumn are legendary. So are the car backups on Skyline Drive, the beautiful road that winds the length of the park.

I have enjoyed the park in summertime, but have never braved the autumn crowds. So this fall I continue my bullet journal travel with a trip to Shenandoah.

I was inspired by some vintage posters I found online, which turn out to be modern posters with a retro look. You can see one of my favorites here.

I went all out for color on my cover page, and included trackers at the bottom. As with the inspirational poster, I stayed away from black lines in my illustrations, creating everything with blocks of color instead.

In my monthly log, the calendar is drawn simply in black as a contrast to the tree and mountains. The quote is from John Muir, the naturalist and advocate for wilderness. More on that later.

My projects page features classic fall foliage. I took the picture before I inked in all my lists :o)

Here’s the setup for the last week in October with another quote from John Muir: “Keep close to Nature’s heart…and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.”

I got these quotes from a lovely page on the U.S. Department of the Interior’s blog. The page features Muir’s words along with breathtaking images from national parks.
