Merry Christmas! If you celebrate other holidays over the winter, Happy Holidays!

Over the next couple weeks, I’ll be taking time to focus on regrouping for next year. This means taking time to reflect on 2021 and think about long term goals, then seeing what that means for 2022.

Plus I’ll set up my new bullet journal. Yay!

I fell in love with this little fawn on one of Notebook Therapy’s journals. I was hesitant to commit though, because this notebook has fewer pages (176) than any bullet journal I’ve used. (More coming in future posts about how I adjust for this.) Also, the delicate little creature on the cover doesn’t line up with my word for 2022—POWER.

But the more I thought about it, the more this fawn made sense to me. Part of the reason I’m choosing power as my word is that I am uncomfortable with the concept. I want to understand and make peace with the idea of power. This is going to involve broadening the way I think about power and its role in the world.

If power is influence, what could be more powerful than nature and new life? Think of the influence fawns (and babies) have over their parents. Or the potential influence any one life can have on society.

I’m used to thinking of power as political wranglings, or physical violence, or psychological and emotional abuse. All of these turn my stomach. But I’m starting to realize that what I hate when it comes to power is the abuse of power. Power itself does not have to be bad. In fact, to have a balance of power, we need more good people with good intentions to step into their power and wield it.

So my little fawn is a reminder to broaden my thinking about what power can mean.

Have you picked a word or focus for 2022?

I’ll be taking next week off from blogging so I can concentrate on planning, but I’ll be back in 2022. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Happy All Holidays!

I didn’t have a word but since I read this I’ve settled on one. Required a poem to think it though. I’ll email it to you. You’re always so inspiring and I can’t wait to see what reflections Power gives you over the next several months! For what it’s worth, I think of you as powerful — strong influence with your words and example.
