If you’ve been following my writing progress, you’ll know that I’ve been re-outlining my story, and refining my protagonist’s character arc. A couple weeks ago, I turned in the character arc to my book coach.
I quickly got feedback. Now I’m officially on my own again, ready to dig into revision. But first I want to talk about my book coach. She showed me where I was doing things well, and asked questions about the things that weren’t working. She shifted my focus to exactly what I needed to work on.
If you’re curious about what I’ll be changing, here’s a rundown.
- 21 new scenes
- 22 scenes gone (much of this material will be used to build new scenes)
- 2 big characters gone, 1 minor character turned into a major character
- 1 completely new ending
It sounds like a lot, and it is, but I’m not starting from scratch. And it’s so exciting to look at scenes where I was lost and didn’t know the point, and now know exactly how all of it fits into the story.
